A Fitness Center Tailored for Neurodiverse Individuals

At Feel Good Fit Divergent Fitness, we are dedicated to empowering under-served neurodiverse children and their families to lead more enriching, fulfilling lives. Trust us to help your child or neurodivergent adult unlock their full potential and witness the remarkable difference we can make together.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with autism, other neurodivergent conditions, seniors, and their families. We also support those suffering from severe anxiety and depression through movement and fitness. Neurodivergence knows no age limit, and neither do we, we serve individuals of all ages.

Our Services

Traditional treatments for neurodiverse individuals, including both children and adults, often aim to suppress their behaviors and traits. These approaches typically view neurodivergence as a disorder to be minimized in order to improve behavior and quality of life.

However, by rethinking neurodivergence, we can see its behaviors and traits as functional and purposeful. This shift in perspective changes our approach to working with neurodiverse individuals and the goals we set for their progress.

At Divergent Fitness, we develop and apply treatment protocols based on this innovative viewpoint. Instead of suppressing traits, we enhance and optimize them, transforming what is often seen as a “disorder” into a powerful asset.

Training Our New Members

  • Assess new members to understand their unique needs and functional capabilities. Neurodivergent individuals experience a sensory-input-to-response gap, affecting their reactions to environmental stimuli.
  • Divergent responses in neurodivergent individuals serve intentional purposes, similar to neurotypical reactions. Coaches at Divergent Fitness focus on improving body-brain communication through tailored movement and exercise.
  • Emphasis on enhancing quality of life by understanding and optimizing the intent behind each movement.
  • Benefits include improved muscle strength, coordination, and balance, akin to typical athletic development.

Supported Neurodivergent Conditions

At Feel Good Fit, we acknowledge neurodiversity encompasses more than just autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. Our programs cater to individuals with a wide range of conditions:

  • ADHD
  • Rhett’s Syndrome
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Injuries
  • PDD-NOS
  • Various Genetic Disorders

Through personalized movement and exercise protocols, we aim to enhance skills, social interactions, and overall quality of life across these diverse conditions.

For example, individuals experiencing acute anxiety often exhibit unique responses to their surroundings and interactions, influenced by heightened sensory inputs. Our approach utilizes physical activity to effectively manage these sensory challenges.

Fitness For Neurodivergent Adults

Feel Good Fit also supports neurodivergent adults with the same effective protocols we use for younger athletes. Our customized programs are designed to meet individual needs, regardless of age.

Parents and caregivers, please note that everything on our website for children applies equally to neurodivergent adults. Independent neurodivergent adults are also welcome to benefit from our facilities and programs.

Managing Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma

Adults often encounter anxiety, depression, and trauma from life experiences. Traditional treatments can be ineffective, as experienced by one of our athletes who struggled with severe depression despite trying various therapies.

At Feel Good Fit, we use movement protocols to tackle these issues. Exercise activates muscles that trigger specific somatic responses, allowing us to manage their effects. Unlike passive traditional methods, our active approach effectively addresses these challenges.

Fitness for Seniors

Preventing Sarcopenia, Bone Density Loss, and Balance Issues.

At Feel Good Fit, we understand the unique physical, mental, and emotional needs of seniors, including:

  • Age-related changes: Muscle mass (sarcopenia), bone density, and cardiovascular function.
  • Common chronic conditions: Arthritis, osteoporosis, and heart disease.
  • Medication impacts: How medications affect exercise response.
  • Cognitive and sensory changes: Effects on learning and communication.
  • Psychosocial factors: Social isolation, depression, and fear of falling.

Our holistic approach to senior fitness addresses these multifaceted needs, creating a supportive and empowering environment. This helps older adults feel confident, capable, and motivated to achieve their health and wellness goals.

Key Benefits of Regular Physical Activity for Seniors:

  • Improved strength, balance, and mobility
  • Lower risk of chronic diseases (heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis)
  • Enhanced cognitive function and memory
  • Increased energy and vitality
  • Greater confidence and well-being

We tailor safe and effective exercise programs for seniors, overcoming barriers like fear of injury and boosting confidence, ensuring lasting lifestyle changes.

Managing Somatic Errors

Somatic errors are central to many neurodivergent conditions. At Feel Good Fit, we manage these errors with specialized fitness and movement protocols.

By combining elements of nutrition, psychology, neuroscience, and other fields, our approach equips our clients and their parents with the skills, techniques, and insights needed to live fuller, more satisfying lives..

Unleashing Potential

You know your child can achieve more, and so do we. Parents and neurodivergent adults understand their true capabilities.

Traditional approaches often treat neurodivergent conditions as disorders to be fixed. At Divergent Fitness, we focus on unlocking and nurturing each individual’s potential. We strive to harness these capabilities while fostering further skill development.

Understanding Somatic Errors

Somatic errors occur when there’s a disconnect between the body’s sensory inputs and the brain’s anticipated outcomes. This gap can lead to inaccurate predictions and challenges in processing information, particularly in individuals with neurodivergent conditions.

For instance, a young child learns about hot objects through sensory experience. Touching something hot provides feedback to the brain, which then stores this information to modify future behavior in similar situations.

However, individuals with neurodivergent conditions often experience challenges in this communication process between body and brain. They may process a vast amount of sensory information, overwhelming the brain’s ability to make accurate predictions. This perspective contrasts with typical processing, where expectations guide perception (“top-down”), rather than being heavily influenced by sensory inputs (“bottom-up”).

The Impact of Somatic Errors

Somatic errors can lead to discomfort and difficulty taking action due to uncertainty and fear of potential outcomes, especially in neurodivergent individuals.

Consider the everyday sensory overload most people experience. When processing information “from the top down,” individuals prioritize specific inputs rather than trying to handle everything simultaneously.

For instance, as you read this page, you likely focus on the text and relevant details, filtering out distractions. This focused approach contrasts with how neurodivergent individuals often perceive and process information—attempting to manage all inputs simultaneously, which can overwhelm their ability to focus, prioritize, and anticipate outcomes in similar situations.

Managing Somatic Errors with Fitness and Movement

At Feel Good Fit, we approach somatic errors by understanding our clients unique perspectives and embracing their “bottom-up” viewpoint of the world. We use fitness and movement to bridge the gap between mind and body, training the mind through repetitive experiences and predictable outcomes.

For instance, consistent exercises and weightlifting routines help neurodivergent individuals anticipate outcomes reliably. By maintaining consistent movement patterns and resistance levels, the brain gradually learns to predict these outcomes.

As students and athletes succeed in their fitness and movement endeavors, we continue to narrow the brain-body gap, fostering greater confidence and skill development.

Naturopathic & Nutritional Services

Exploring the Neurological Effects of Nutrition.

The way our bodies absorb and process macronutrients from food has a significant impact on our nervous system and how we respond to our environment. This course offers a fresh perspective compared to conventional methods that focus on calorie counting, carbohydrate intake, and portion control.

Balancing Hormones:

Many individuals grappling with weight issues often contend with hormonal imbalances. Whether it’s estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, insulin, thyroid, or adrenal hormones, each plays a critical role in managing healthy weight. Deficiencies or excesses of these hormones can impede progress in weight loss endeavors.

Factors Affecting Weight Loss:

Heavy Metal Toxicity: Environmental toxins are widespread today, affecting our air, water, and soil. Heavy metals, detected through hair analysis, disrupt enzymes and hormones, and contribute to nutrient deficiencies, hindering weight loss.

Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies: Common among dieters, deficiencies in zinc, selenium, iron, calcium, and magnesium slow metabolism and disrupt hormone synthesis, contributing to fatigue. Hair mineral analysis helps identify and address these deficiencies.

Digestive Health: Issues like constipation, bloating, and food sensitivities (e.g., gluten, eggs, dairy) indicate poor digestion. A Food Sensitivity Test can pinpoint triggers, reduce inflammation, and stabilize hormones for better weight management.

Stress: Chronic stress elevates cortisol levels, leading to weight gain. Effective stress management techniques are essential for sustained weight loss success.

Mental/Emotional State: Addressing emotional eating through self-love and healthier habits is crucial for sustained weight loss and overall well-being. Supporting mental health transforms motivation and behaviors related to eating.
